How to deter the Poverty mentality of the Philippines?

I agree w/ most the above answers. The families who are left behind usually squander most of the remittances sent to them...splurging on luxury items such as fancy cell phones, TVs, cars, etc. Often the family hopes and dream is shouldered by that 1 person (OFW). The sacrifice needs to be shared by all...thus, the OFW needs to cut down on the amount being sent to motivate the family to work for their own good.
